Description
--- **TLDR** Coup is a bluffing game where players claim character powers to eliminate rivals' influence and be the last standing (24 words). Key mechanics include: - *Bluffing & challenges* Claim any character's action; opponents can challenge, risking influence loss if bluffing. - *Influence management* Face-down character cards represent influence; lose both to be eliminated. - *Coin economy* Start with 2 coins; actions gain/steal coins, Coup costs 7 (mandatory at 10+). - *Character powers* Duke (3 coins/block aid), Assassin (kill for 3), Contessa (block kill), Captain (steal 2/block steal), Ambassador (exchange cards/block steal). - *Optional Inquisitor* Draw/exchange one card, peek/force redraw opponent's card, block steals. - *Victory condition* Last player with face-down influence wins. Coup is a fast-paced bluffing card game set in a corrupt Italian city-state, where players head rival families vying for power through manipulation, bribery, and deception. The objective is to eliminate opponents' influence—represented by face-down character cards—until only one family remains. Each player begins with two coins and two hidden influences from a 15-card deck containing three copies each of five characters: Duke (take 3 coins or block Foreign Aid), Assassin (pay 3 coins to assassinate), Contessa (block assassination), Captain (steal 2 coins or block theft), and Ambassador (exchange cards with deck or block theft). On a turn, players may claim any character's power (regardless of holdings), take Income (1 coin), Foreign Aid (2 coins), or Coup (pay 7 coins to force opponent to lose influence; mandatory at 10+ coins). Character actions succeed unless challenged: the claimant reveals the card if held (challenger loses influence, card shuffled back and redrawn) or loses influence if bluffing (card turned face-up and unusable). Face-up influences are discarded upon loss, and players with both revealed are out. An optional Inquisitor (Kickstarter-exclusive in English) replaces Ambassadors, allowing draw/exchange one card, force opponent to reveal/exchange one of theirs, or block thefts. The game emphasizes psychological tension, as the last player with face-down influence claims victory. ---
